Nebuchadnezzar's Image

I would like to answer a number of points concerning Nebuchadnezzar’s image that Brother David Caudery raises (Letters, December 2014, page 535).

The scriptural statement that the kingdom represented by the bronze section of the image “shall bear rule over all the earth” (Daniel 2:39) really does fit the situation regarding the Greek (Macedonian) kingdom established by Alexander the Great, who is said to have wept because there were no more countries for him to conquer. Be this true or false, historians record that his dominion “exceeded all the kingdoms that were before it”, and again, “After the power of the Persians had been broken the Macedonian empire, from the extent of its dominion, surpassed every other that had preceded”.

It is not correct to say that the Greek empire never really functioned, as it did continue to function even after Alexander’s death. The historian Rollin writes that Alexander had “established such a well ordered administration that his removal was at first scarcely felt”.
