The Greatness of Betzalel

“And Betzalel the son of Uri the son of Chur of the tribe of Judah made all that the LORD commanded to Moses.” (Exodus 38:22)

Why does the Bible give Betzalel’s lineage again? The Bible already told us of his lineage in previous chapters (Exodus 31:2, 35:30)! The Bible states Betzalel’s lineage not once, not twice, but three times. Each statement of his lineage corresponded to either the wisdom, understanding, or knowledge that the LORD granted Betzalel in order that he be able to construct the Tabernacle—(Baal HaTurim). However, the stating of the lineage itself had a dual purpose. One, it came to give praise to Betzalel’s ancestors, that they were worthy of having such a child come from them. Two, the lineage also indicated the qualities and accomplishments of Betzalel as well—(see Or HaChayyim on Exodus 31:2).
