The Religion of Egypt: Man in the Afterlife

In addition to the “Book of the Dead” and the “Book of the Opening of the Mouth” already discussed, there was much additional writing devoted to the needs of the dead. This grew in quantity as time progressed, for the Egyptians, when they found something new, did not discard the old. Following is a description of the most important.

The “Book of Traversing Eternity” is an account of a journey through the Other World and a description of the blessedness of the dead.

The “Book of May My Name Flourish” is a prayer designed to make the name of the deceased permanent in heaven and earth. A man whose name was blotted out could have no existence in the Other World.
