Assembling and Dismantling

“In the first month of the second year [of the Exodus], on the first of the month, the tabernacle was assembled. Moses put up the tabernacle. He set up the bases, placed the beams in them...” (Exodus 40:17-18)

There was a seven day consecration period for the Tabernacle. Before the Tabernacle could become fully functional, its care keepers, the Levites, needed to be taught the proper way to take care of it, including its assembly and disassembly. Therefore, during this inaugural time, Moses daily assembled and dismantled the Tabernacle, all the while familiarizing the Levites with their future duties—(Ramban).
