The story of a reversal of fate after death is a common theme in ancient folk tale tradition. Alexandrian [Egypt] Jews brought the tradition to Palestine, where it was repeated in seven Jewish versions. Below is one, from the medieval rabbi, Rashi (Rabbi Solomon ben Isaac, 1040-1105).
