“And God said it is not good for man to be alone, let Us make for him a helper against him.” (Genesis 2:18, literal translation of the Hebrew)
ויאמר יי אלהים לא טוב היות האדם לבדו אעשה לו עזר כנגדו׃
Rashi, in his commentary on Genesis 2:18, noted, “If he [the man] is worthy, she [the woman] will be a helpmate. If he is not worthy, she will be against him,1 to fight him ( זכה עזר, לא זכה כנגדו ).”
