World Religions

In this series of studies we will explore the beliefs of the major religions of the world, their strengths and weaknesses, and will compare them with the Bible and its teachings.

Living in a Christian land, we are apt to think of Christianity as the religion of the world. Such is not the case. Christianity is but one religion among many, and it is embraced by only about one-third of the world’s population. The other two-thirds adhere to other faiths and other gods. Millions bow to idols, worship animals, and perform weird ceremonies to charm or drive away “evil spirits.”

One hundred years ago it mattered little to us what people believed on the other side of the globe. We lived on another continent, separated by a huge expanse of water. But while the many miles of water still separate Christian and non-Christian sections of the world, distance is not the barrier that it was. Modern communications spread news from one side of the globe to the other in seconds. Nations that were once separated by days or weeks of travel are now joined in a matter of hours by jet planes, or by only moments via radio and television communications. What at one time was a “two-world society” has now become a “one-world society.”
