The Serpent and the River

“And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water as a river...” (Revelation 12:15)

Jacob Moellin (Maharil) (1360–1427), the great rabbinical scholar and the most formidable German halakhic authority of his time, once recounted a midrashic tale of Abraham’s journey to Moriah. In it we find elements which have interesting similarities to the event described in Revelation chapter 12, where the serpent attempts to stop the woman who had just given birth.
