Rebirth: The Rabbi and the Dragon

Listen to two real life stories of how two Jewish rabbis used words to bring new life to two men. Nearly two centuries separate the two stories, yet many similarities exist between the two. In both stories, hate and intimidation is overcome by love, bringing opportunity to embrace new life.

This is partly a narrative of Nicodemus’s visit to Jesus at night. Contrasted with this narrative (as found in John 3) is a 20th century night visit by another Jewish rabbi to a KKK Grand Dragon. Cantor Michael Weisser was the victim of harassment and intimidation from Larry Trapp, the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rather than respond in kind, Michael Weisser would leave voicemails on the KKK’s answering machine that he called “love notes.” Eventually, Weisser’s efforts paid off.
