The Great Salvation: The Spirit Shall Return

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7)

The words of Ecclesiastes 12:7 are relied upon to sustain the belief in the flight of the spirit to heaven at death, where it is supposed to enter upon its eternal inheritance... Now the first thing we would call the reader’s attention to in the verse in question is the fact that Solomon makes no difference between good and bad men, but speaks without qualification of the spirit returning at death to God who gave it. Whatever the spirit here spoken of is, all will agree that all men good and bad, are in possession of it, and that at death the same spirit departs, the good and the bad alike; and since it is said it returns to God who gave it, it follows that it came from God.
