Resist the Devil

James 4:7 — “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you”.

1 Peter 5:8 — “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”.

These verses are taken to mean that the Devil is a monster, like a lion, actively choosing people to devour, against whom the Christian has to be on guard.
