The Three Rabbinic Views on “Some Uncleanness"

“When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.” (Deuteronomy 24:1)

Requiring a man to provide his ex-wife with a certificate of divorce was a huge step forward for Hebrew women. It meant she was legally free and could remarry. (Today the bill of divorcement is called “a get”.) This law as recorded by Moses, also specifically prohibited another man from marrying the ex-wife until the bill of divorcement had been received by her. All of this is fairly straightforward and clear.
