The Pit with No Water

Question: Zechariah 9:11 says: “As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.” What is referred to by the word “pit”?

Answer: To obtain the full import of this verse, we must consider verses 9 to 11. Jesus, Zion’s king, literally rode into Jerusalem on an ass, in fulfilment of verse 9. He was put to death as a sacrifice, but was raised from the dead and endowed with all power, and a new covenant was instituted. (1 Corinthians 11:25).
