Geological or 24-Hour Days?

“The evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:5)

There is a wide diversity of opinion regarding the “days” of Creation narrative in the first chapter of Genesis. An interpretation favoured by many people is that these were “geological days” (i.e., that they were long periods of time corresponding with the various “ages” through which the earth is said to have passed).

Others, more conservative in their approach to the Scripture text, interpret these “days” as 24-hour periods, but because of their implicit trust in the literal truth of the historical parts of the Bible they feel no need to attempt to “reconcile” their interpretation with the theories of the geologists.
