Science & Faith

In this episode, the focus is on the apparent tension between science and faith, and that there is no conflict between a deep religious faith and scientific research. And we should start with recognizing that the Bible’s purpose may have been something other than explaining how the world was put together in its physical structure.

The Bible belonged to the ancient world in which it was produced. It was not an abstract, other-worldly book dropped down out of heaven. It was connected to, and therefore spoke to, the people in that ancient culture. Consequently, when we read Genesis chapters 1 and 2, we need to put aside our cultural, modern understanding of our world and ask, “OK, Hebrew author. What are you trying to do? What are you trying to communicate?”
