The promise God made to Abraham was to him personally and also to his seed. In order for this promise to be fulfilled, Abraham has to be raised from the dead, for Stephen tells us that Abraham did not receive it. In Acts 7:4,5, speaking to the

Jews about Abraham, he said that God had “removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. And He gave him none inheritance. in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet He promised that He would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.”
