Quirinius Was Twice Governor of Syria

“This Taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.” (Luke 2:2)

A friendly reader has queried our statement in the December Testimony (see article: Christ’s First Trial...before Annas) that “Quirinius became governor of Syria in A.D. 6.” This Quirinius (or Quirinus, according to some authorities) seems to be the same person as the “Cyrenius” of Luke 2:2 (A.V.), who ordered the enrolment which caused Joseph and Mary to go from Nazareth to Bethlehem just prior to the birth of Jesus.
