Insane Lunatics

“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” (Luke 9:1)

The Aramaic term shadey means “the insane,” “lunatics,” or “those who suffer from mental disorders.” The term is still is common use in Aramaic and Arabic languages.  Shedana means “one who is crazy or possessed by an evil inclination,” which is often called an evil spirit.
